Price: $0.22 per ounce
This canned food formula starts with a species-appropriate list of five animal-based ingredients. In addition to fresh turkey, chicken, and tuna, it contains nutrient-rich turkey liver and moisture-rich turkey broth. Later in the list, you’ll see menhaden fish oil as an animal-based fat and an excellent source of skin- and coat-supporting omega-3 fatty acids.
While this recipe contains fewer than 5% total carbohydrates as fed, it does contain a few unnecessary plant ingredients. It’s thickened with guar gum and agar agar – it also contains cranberries, pumpkin, tomato, and dried kelp. Overall, however, the fiber content is very low which makes it a digestible option for most cats.
While many of Nulo’s canned foods are sold in small 2.8-ounce cans, this formula comes in a 12-pack of 12.5-ounce cans. This recipe ends up costing about $0.22 per ounce. For the average 10-pound cat, your daily feeding price would be about $1.24.
